Relaxer Update - 26 February

Since deciding to start my hair journey last year I've had 2 relaxers. I stretched my last relaxer for 5 months with the help of a sew-in and senegalese twists. According to My Commitment I've achieved my short term goal! FULL SHOULDER LENGTH! My hair was visibly uneven before, and I absolutely love how it looks and feels now. For the first time ever I put my hair in a bun without weave! Here's a comparison picture:

From June to February, what a difference! I'm very pleased with my results and this is just the motivation I needed to stick with it. This go around, I used Optimum regular strength relaxer. For drying, I wrapped my hair and sat under my Revlon Amber Waves hair dryer. I'm definitely sticking with it after this!

2011 in a Nutshell

As another year comes to a close, it is my pleasure to do my annual "end of the year wrap-up". I started doing these in 2006 while I was on Hi5. There a really good way to recollect on your growth from the past year and highlight the things you want to remember.

I brought in 2011 with my family in the Virgin Islands while I was 5 months pregnant with my son Jeremy. After getting stuck in the Virgin Islands because of a snow storm on the Atlantic coast, I made it home and started preparing for the arrival of my son. My 2 year anniversary was spent in Paris, France -cue Jay Z and Kanye West song- and upon my return from a married couples retreat in Garmisch, Germany I had an awesome babyshower hosted by my good friend Julie.

On May 14 at 4:54pm, the love of my life made his way into my world: Jeremy D. Nick ❤ Being a mom is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Seeing my son smile makes everything in my world okay. Life was okay before I had him but centering my life around someone than yourself really brings everything into perspective. Things that used to mean everything to me before are minuscule now.

In October, we were able to visit my family in the Virgin Islands, not under the best circumstances, but we made the best out of a bad situation. Tramaine and Jeremy got to meet everyone on my side of the family and we definitely had an awesome time. For the Christmas holiday, we came back to Maryland so that my in-laws could meet Jeremy. Overall, this year has been awesome to my family and I hope that you can say the same. See you in 2012!

Madagascar in ICE!

Would you believe that the above sculptures are completely in ICE?!
My in-laws and I went to luxurious and grand Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center to see the ICE! display of Madagascar.

What an amazing time! When my husband told me the sculptures were made completely of ice I couldn't believe it. After a quick touch test, I was a believer. The exhibit was unbelievably cold, so as to keep the painted ice from melting. Provided on site were these large blue parkas.

Along with the ICE! display was ice skating, pictures and a giant ice slide. There were amazing little trinkets for purchase along with hot chocolate. We all had an amazing time, including Jeremy, who was in awe of everything he saw.

Being that I havent been to real mall in quite some time and I study the Bakers website I was overwhelmed when I went into the Bakers retail store at the Westfield Annapolis and saw the Mona2 for $50! They also had Blythe2 for $50 but not in my size! -insert sad face here- Either way, I'm completely satisfied with this purchase and cant wait to wear them!

My family and I are stateside once again! We took a space-available flight directly into Baltimore-Washington International yesterday, which was awesome for us because my husband is from Maryland. Although this was the first time my son meet his paternal grandmother/grandfather and great grandmother/grandfather he took to them like he had known them forever! He's right at home and already spoiled rotten. It must be like looking in a mirror for him because he shares all there facial features! I'll be posting again soon with updates of our trip and pictures. Until then, be well.

So I'm sure by now we've all heard the verdict on Dr Conrad Murray's trial involving the death of Michael Jackson. Now, by no means am I an expert on the subject but I must state my opinion: I DO NOT AGREE WITH THE VERDICT. The law is outright stupid. So you mean to tell me that we are going to send a man to jail and take away his medical license because a DRUG ADDICT died?! Now, I love MJ just as much as the next person, but because he made Thriller doesnt exclude him from reality. MICHAEL WAS ADDICTED. If he wasn't prescribed that drug from Dr Murray, he would have found it elsewhere. That's common sense.

The day before Michael's death, everyone still referred to him as "Wacko Jacko" or a pedofile, so I hate the fact that he is now "Michael: the man who we all knew was a Saint". Cut the shit, guys. This is a man's life and livelihood we're talking about here. By no mean am I condoning illegal drugs, but peep this scenario: an addict gets caught with drugs, they go to county lock up; the dealer gets 30 years in prison. WHAT?! No one makes anyone do anything. The fact that you get that much time is absurd to me. But again, this is just me thinking out loud. Take a minute, step outside your mind, and look at this thing from the other point of view...

After seeing them featured on Morgan's blog Vintage Bell (click here for the direct link to the post) I decided to give Oyin Handmade a shot. I purchased 3 products and have been using them since. Here's a little bit of history directly from their site:

I havent tried the Honey Hemp Conditioner yet because I'm still wearing my sew-in from my birthday, but I use the Juice and Berries spray daily. Even on the weave, its phenomenal. I'm absolutely in love with it. The Head to Toe wash didn't impress me as much. It's a product that supposed to double as a body wash and a shampoo, but I'm going to use it solely as a shampoo. Its too light, in my opinion, to use as a body wash. There's just not enough suds for me. Either way, click the pictures to purchase.

Go girl, it's your birthday!

I'm sorry for the lack of post, but between work and my birthday last Wednesday I've been super busy. I had to turn my car in for cosmetic repairs so I've been driving an Audi A4 rental. It's nice, but I miss my automatic and Ford Sync!

Plans for my birthday sort of fell threw but my future ex wife (lol) Jessica over at Diva on a Budget made sure I had fun. :) on my birthday she took me to Macaroni Grill and had them sing to me in Italian while I devoured my beloved crab stuffed mushrooms.

Gift-wise, I received an iPad from my husband, and clothes from my sister. My in-laws sent us stuff too, but they're caught up in the mail system. I suspect we'll see that stuff sometime next week.. On the Saturday following my birthday Jeremy and I took more studio pictures (which we'll pick up on the 21st) and Jess and I did a little last minute shopping before heading to the Hacienda to grab a bite. Following the Hacienda we made an appearance at Markthalle, a local night club.

I honestly think this product helped my edges! Bc I cant wear my hair down at work, This is essential in making sure I dont loose my hairline after constantly pulling my hair back. It works sort of like an edge control while also adding a bit of shine. Its a little greasy and smells horrible, but I can deal with that, I guess.

Quite frankly, I think I've stretched this relaxer enough! I'm so anxious for my hair to be straight again! I've been getting a lot of breakage so I gave the ponytails a rest and opted for cornrows & inverted braids for the past 2 weeks. After this post I'll be applying my relaxer. Since I normally wrap my hair to dry, a length check will be done at another time. Maybe I'll get to use my dryer (its been in my closet since I purchased it). Welp, now that Jeremy's finally asleep, its time to get to work!

Kaiden is the son of one of my best friends, Keshia. He was 8lbs 8.5oz and after a bit of complications and a successful c-section he breathed his first breathes! We're so happy to welcome him and can't wait to enjoy him. And the fact that him and Jeremy are only about 4 months apart is an added bonus. They'll be just as good of friends as their moms! At about 16 weeks my son got professional pictures taken. In a perfect world, I'd have them done every 3 months starting at birth, but that wasn't quite the case. I wasn't able to get newborn pictures done & the picture people didn't come back until he was 4 months old, so there you have it. We should be stateside when he's around 6 months so we'll have better luck with that set. Either way, here are his 16 week photos:

So I got this technique from my friend Julie, who does this ALL THE TIME. Personally, I've never "marinated" chicken, I just season it and then cook it. After watching Julie marinate steaks for 24 hours before grilling them, I was dying to try this out, even if it wasn't for the full 24 hours. Because I dont have a measuring cup or any measuring utensils I played everything by ear. If you decide to try this out, just use your judgement. & as always HAVE FUN!

Prep Time: 60 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Ready In: 90 minutes

I combined everything you see here along with 3 pieces of chicken into a large resealable sandwich bag.

Your mixture should look similar to this. Let sit in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Cut up 1 medium potatoe, 1 small tomatoe and 1 small onion.

Pour the contents of the bag into a pan. Add chopped veggies.

Because I live in Germany, the temperatures on my oven are in Celsius. I preheated it to 250°C and sprinkled a little more seasoning over everything before letting it sit in the oven for 30 minutes. I did go in and flip the chicken at about the half way mark. I ate this over mashed potatoes, but I think it'd be excellent over rice too! Now, for the end result:

Hacienda is a Mexican restaurant here in Kaiserslautern. They are TRULY my guilty pleasure! I love their teriyaki wings. Seeing that Monday night is wing night, I swung by there and helped myself to all you can eat wings. I'm not a big fan on Mexican food, so I honestly I couldnt tell you if their food is "authentic" or not, but I like it. If you're ever in this area, check them out. & dont forget to raise the flag for service!

Sesame Street!!

The USO is a private, nonprofit, non-partisan organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services. They're known throughout the military for the awesome things they do for soldiers and I for one couldn't tell how grateful I am for them. I'm getting REALLY good at this eyebrow thing! I've been getting constant compliments at work because of it, and go figure 98% of them are from MALES! I guess they do pay attention. :) I only use a couple products to accomplish the perfect brow FOR ME: MAC brow pencil in STUD, MAC Select Cover-up Concealer and Estee Lauder e/s in MINK.

The picture above is for comparison purposes! My eyebrows are thin. Honestly, I've never had much of a brow so getting them arched or waxed would have did nothing for me. This is a really big deal for me! I feel like I get a little better with every time I fill them in. I was just too excited so I had to tell somebody! :)

Today was a very traumatic experience for me: I hit a deer (which later died). I didn't intend too (do we ever really?!) but there was nothing I could do to avoid it. Country roads here in Germany dont have street lights and by the time I saw it, it was at my driver's side head light. When I clipped it, it was at my passenger side head light. Amazingly enough, THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO MY CAR.

My license plate, however, did go missing in action for a while. Since I was on my way to the babysitter's house when the entire thing happened, her husband saw my plate on his way to work and brought it back to me. The automotive center on-post reattached my plate and I was right back in business. I also filed a police report, like the law abiding citizen that I am. Hopefully, that doesn't come back to bite me in the ass. German laws are crazy when it comes to animals. I guess we'll just have to see...

This time I purchased the normal sizes w/ the exception of the softener. My face is very oily, so Pureness was just what I needed. The cleansing foam left my face feeling refreshed while the moisturizer did exactly what I needed it to do: moisturize my face with minimal shine. I definitely recommend these products. I've come to the decision that I need to give my hair that extra push. My edges are thinning from the constant ponytails I do for work and as I get deeper into this relaxer stretch I find myself needing to moisturize and seal my hair more often. I had a nail appointment early this morning and without thinking I co-washed my hair without having enough time to let it dry! Instead of freaking out, I attempted a twist out (which ended horribly)& then came up with this style. Its a bit wild and frizzy for me, but I embraced it. :)

After my appointment this morning Jeremy and I headed over to the Ramstein Aquatics Center (the on-post pool). My unit was hosting their water survival training there as a part of our monthly Pay-Day Activities. Since swim diapers were complimentary and Jeremy had never been in a pool before, I let him have at it. He got in the pool with one of my co-workers, Sergeant Lezama, and went to town! He absolutely loved the water. It may have had something to do with the fact that the kiddie section of the pool is heated.. Here are some pictures of the facility (courtesy of Dunn Diaries):

I didnt expect Jeremy to take to the water the way he did! He did not utter a peep until it was time to get out! I was so proud of my little swimmer. :)

Hair update

I've made the decision to stretch my next relaxer until my birthday (Sept 28). I've purchased 2 packs of the Chocolate hair and I plan to get that sewn in after my relaxer. I've been doing a lot of protective styling bc I'm not used to not getting perms. My hair is very dry (due partly to the fact that I'm too lazy to get up and moisturize and seal it properly). I think its actually breaking in my sleep. :( Honestly, I really just need to find the drive to take care of my hair and make sure it's healthy. I've bought a sit under dryer and a ton of hair products so hopefully I can find it in myself to make sure my hair is healthy. Wish me luck!

I was just browsing online and I saw this! Thought I'd share it with y'all:

These items are practically identical, until you look at the price tag! The shoe on the top is the Steve Madden Roxxiee, seen here priced at $119.95 while the other is the Bakers Mona (seen here) priced at $90.00. That's almost a $30 difference for the same shoe! In my experience Bakers shoes hold a very good quality so I would definitely recommend pocketing that extra $30. Just thought I'd share this! Enjoy your Monday. (c:

I absolutely love this line from Sally Hansen! The colors are vibrant and the texture is nice and rich. They have an OPI quality with just half the price. And they dry beautifully with great coverage after just 2 coats. The colors I have displayed above are: 10 Lightning, 420 Lucky Lilac, and 470 Speedy Sunburst. I almost can't tell the difference between Lucky Lilac and my OPI Lucky Lucky Lavender! I definitely recommend these.

Quite frankly: I HATE THIS NAIL POLISH. The color that shines so beautifully threw the bottle DOES NOT transfer to your nails. And it has a watery texture. I don't know if its just this color or if they all are like this, but I'm so disappointed with this polish that I'm not willing to buy another bottle to try it out. So ~~310 Sunset Orange~~ will be taking a field trip to Kaiserslautern Waste Management.

It's been 3 whole years since I shipped off to basic combat training for the US Army! I've come a long way from the person I used to be and I'm very proud of myself even if no one else is proud for me. I joined the Army at the age of 19 on July 8, 2008. Now, 3 years and 2 pay grades later I have a husband, son, home and car. I'm a lot happier now than I was back then too. I think I was too concentrated on the wrong things but after you experience certain things you either start to see a light at the end of the tunnel or you realize that the tunnel is completely dark and you're in it alone. Soldiers truly become an extended family and I can say I'm proud to be one. A lot of people frowned on my career choice but you cant please all the people all the time so I've learned to deal.. Either way, here's some pics from the pasts 3 years:

Well, since returning to work last week, I havent had much time (or content) to post. Obviously, I'm in the Army, so I wear a uniform Monday - Friday unless there's a dress down day, where we wear our own clothing for a minimal fee ($3). I had some hauls to post, but both times I ended up wearing everything before I could post the haul. Sucks, I know, but the world keeps turning. Keeping in good faiths, however, I'll find something to post about. Stay tuned and stay fabulous!

Jeremy and I hadn't really left the house all week and my husband just wasn't having it!
