Coming soon!

Hey guys!

I believe in beautiful things. People, clothing, shoes and even food. While scrolling down my FaceBook timeline I realized that my generation is filled with truly talented people and I am happy to be able to call them friends. I want to showcase, via my blog, some of the amazing people I know so I've decided to have guest writers on the blog. And the beauty of it is that their posts will be completely up to them! Anything from an #ootd to recipes or crafts and DIYs. My friends' list is filled with amazing people who have started their own businesses and if this is how I can help them get themselves, or their products out there, then I'm all for it! So I hope you guys enjoy what these incredible people will have to offer.

Austin Reggae Fest

This weekend I welcomed the additional 2 days off. The rest was well needed. This weekend we decided to get out the house and venture down to Austin, the capital of Texas, for the annual Austin Reggae Fest. The atmosphere was great & weed was in the air, lol (no smoking for us, the Army isn't having that!). Being from the Caribbean, reggae has a special place in my heart. Really. It speaks to me like no other genre. My look for this trip came completely from my closet. Nothing is new. As a new home owner I've been redirecting all my funds to decor. The newest item is my clutch which was gifted to me last year by my sister.

How'd you guys spend your long weekend?! I'd love to hear it. Until next time, stay fab.

Spring Cleaning

Now, depending on where you live there still may be some snow on the ground, but here in Texas the warm weather is finally starting to come out! Minus the random hail storm we had here 2 weeks ago, the sunshine makes you want to stay outside. 2 weekends ago we cleaned out our garage, and I am happy to say that we can park both cars in it now! Such a wonderful feeling.

I've also decided to do some Spring cleaning on the blog! A few weeks ago I tried to follow a new blog and blogger alerted me that I had reached my 300 blog limit! I didnt even know there was such a thing! Well, I set out to make room for all the new awesome blogs I'd be following this year & it turns out I had to manually unfollow 160+ blogs due to inactivity! I dont mean, 3-4 months with no post; I'm talking about 12+ months with no updates. So now I'm in the market for new blogs to follow! You guys should recommend some in the comment box below. (c:

I know these photos have nothing to do with this blog post, but they were just sitting my camera roll. Enjoy!

How to Style: Denim Top

Are you one of those people who associate denim with super casual?! If you are, allow me the opportunity to attempt to change your mind. For the past few years I've grown to LOVE denim tops. I feel they can dressed way up or way down, and depending on the occasion and accessories (unless your going to a formal event) they can always be squeezed  into a wardrobe somewhere.

  • My most recent outfit post is appropriate if you just want some glam in your life. The color of this skater skirt, teamed with animal print sandals will almost make your forget your wearing denim! Gold accessories also helped to step this look up a notch.
  • Here in Texas, we do Texas Casual often for after hours work events. I had to improvise, seeing as I don't own a pair of cowboys boots (but I will soon enough). I love the look of a light denim top played over a darker wash jean. Minimal accessories made this (for me) more work appropriate, seeing as I work with an older demographic.
  • I love playing neutrals off of denim x denim. It accentuates, but doesn't take away from the denim. This outfit was perfect for a hot summer barbecue.

  • For running errands this is one of my go-to looks. The chunky wedge is comfortable, allowing me to stand in lines or go threw stores with ease. Coral is one of my favorite colors to wear, and its one of those colors that looks good on EVERYONE! This look is easy for anyone to recreate.
  • Pairing denim with a pop of color is ALWAYS the right answer. Throwing a denim top over a maxi dress or skirt can never be wrong. In this instance, I wanted to hide my bra straps. Try it. You'll love it.
  • Personally, I don't condone wearing a denim top and bottom of the same wash. For symmetry, I like light tops with dark bottoms. These Michael Kors wide leg jeans are in my top 5 favorite pairs of pants.

So, I hope this was helpful in giving you some ideas of what can be done with the super versatile denim top! If you have suggestions or have already done a post like this, please leave me a link in the comments below. I'd love to see how you guys style your denim tops..

Home Field Disadvantage

I'm the second from the right.

Let me start off by saying we are okay. My family is okay. It was about 4:30pm when I heard there had been a shooting. My first thoughts were "I have to get off-base! They are going to lock it down." & thats exactly what I tried to do. On my way out I stopped to tell my coworker who was bogged down at her desk that we needed to leave. IMMEDIATELY. I hit the front door and picked up a dead sprint to my car all the way across the parking lot. & just as I was on my way off the post, 300 meters from the main gate of Fort Hood, the barriers went up. We were locked down.

"SHELTER-IN-PLACE, seek shelter immediately, close doors and windows, seek shelter immediately. SHELTER-IN-PLACE". Thats what the recording was saying over the speakers, echoing through post. The first thing I did was call my sons caretaker. Children are so innocent. He said "hi mom. i'm playing. love you. byeeeee". My heart smiled and I calmed down. An hour later, the barrier went down and I gunned it. AWAY FROM FORT HOOD. The portion of post were Jeremy goes to school stayed locked down until 9:30pm but he was safe, and happy.

You know what I hate. I hate cowards who bring guns onto our installation (firearms are prohibited on post)& attack those who clearly cant defend themsleves. I hate those that attack the VERY SAME PEOPLE who, had they been in harms way, would have put their own life on the line to save them. & finally, I hate those cowardly enough to turn the gun on themself afterward so that they dont have to deal with the turmoil they've caused. That's why I say this was a home field disadvantage. The victims of the Fort Hood shooting yesterday were defenseless. I dont want to hear about mental illness and PTSD. Stop making excuses for these people. Quite frankly, I call bullshit. Many of my comrades have PTSD and have NEVER done what this scum did. You should feel safe at home. On American soil. Surrounded by your brothers and sisters in arms. Our focus now will be to comfort one another, and rebuild that security.

God Bless America
