Cherry Blossoms in the Winter

I ended 2017 saying I wanted to do more. I needed my outlet back, and after a bunch of unfortunate events, I decided that there was no better time than now to start. As you can see from my last 2 blog posts I've been making YouTube videos! I definitely want to put it out there: I AM NOT A MAKEUP ARTIST! Honestly, I don't even want to be one. I just like makeup and I enjoy doing it, so I decided to start filming it. Three weeks ago I had no idea how to edit a video, and now I've kind of gotten the hang of it. To say I'm proud of myself would be such an understatement. I'm just trying to enjoy this clear space in my head. I've included this weeks video below, as well as the video details after the cut.

Peplum Pretty

When you keep positive and uplifting people in your circle, they say things to you like "When are you going to blog again?!" and "Did you know its been a week since your last post?!" Ha! Leave it to my friends to drive me to crawl out of my bed on a long weekend. You know that thing we do when we picture stuff in our heads?! Well, I must admit, this one didn't come out exactly the way I planned, but seeing as all my full length mirrors are on their way half across the world I let this one ride.. My Diamond Hair Company virgin hair on the other hand is a completely different story! I used to swear by this virgin Malaysian hair until I got a hold of some virgin Peruvian from Genesis Virgin Hair. This hair does not curl! Lord. Ive tried heat and no heat and although using flexi rods gives some what of a curl, it doesn't last! Ugh! For virgin hair prices I need a little more, so did I enjoy this hair?! Yes. Would I recommend it?! Probably not. Would I ever purchase it again?! No. Soooooo, there you have it..

Relaxer Update - 26 February

Since deciding to start my hair journey last year I've had 2 relaxers. I stretched my last relaxer for 5 months with the help of a sew-in and senegalese twists. According to My Commitment I've achieved my short term goal! FULL SHOULDER LENGTH! My hair was visibly uneven before, and I absolutely love how it looks and feels now. For the first time ever I put my hair in a bun without weave! Here's a comparison picture:



From June to February, what a difference! I'm very pleased with my results and this is just the motivation I needed to stick with it. This go around, I used Optimum regular strength relaxer. For drying, I wrapped my hair and sat under my Revlon Amber Waves hair dryer. I'm definitely sticking with it after this!

Since getting my hair braided twisted, I've found that I'm more inclined to take the infamous "self portrait". Aren't we all though?! We get that extra air of confidence seeing ourselves made up.. Mine has had me camera-whoring since mid December. Here's a few shots I've taken recently:

Oyin Handmade

After seeing them featured on Morgan's blog Vintage Bell (click here for the direct link to the post) I decided to give Oyin Handmade a shot. I purchased 3 products and have been using them since. Here's a little bit of history directly from their site:

Oyin Handmade bases most (if not all) of there products with honey. I purchased the Juice and Berries nourishing herbal leave-in, the Honey Hemp Conditioner,  and the Head to Toe Honey Wash. I havent tried the Honey Hemp Conditioner yet because I'm still wearing my sew-in from my birthday, but I use the Juice and Berries spray daily. Even on the weave, its phenomenal. I'm absolutely in love with it. The Head to Toe wash didn't impress me as much. It's a product that supposed to double as a body wash and a shampoo, but I'm going to use it solely as a shampoo. Its too light, in my opinion, to use as a body wash. There's just not enough suds for me. Either way, click the pictures to purchase.

Additions to my Regimen

Luster's Pink, Classic Light

Replaced the ORS Olive Oil moisturizer with this. I felt like the ORS was too heavy for my thin hair. This doesn't weigh my hair down & it feels MUCH healthier in my opinion. Definitely think this was a good choice...

Carol's Daughter: Tui Hair Oil

I use this to seal my hair & I really like how it feels. Its not too heavy,  in terms of "oil".  Adds a gorgeous glow to my hair.

Carol's Daughter: Mimosa Hair Honey

After trying this in store, I HAD TO BUY IT. My hair had a little frizz going & the associate suggested I try it. I rubbed a little over my hair and right before my eyes my hair looked like it was FRESHLY IRONED! Whoa. Leaving w/o buying it would have been criminal at that point.

Carol's Daughter Leave-In Conditioner

A couple of spritzes before I detangle or brush/comb threw my hair always does the trick! And it smells awesome!

HE Long Term Relationship: Split End Protector

I honestly dont know what this is doing for my hair, but I like to add some type of product to my before brushing/combing. I just feel like it'll break less if its not as dry, you know?! And it smells really good!

Dr Miracle's Temple & Nape Gro Balm

I honestly think this product helped my edges! Bc I cant wear my hair down at work, This is essential in making sure I dont loose my hairline after constantly pulling my hair back. It works sort of like an edge control while also adding a bit of shine. Its a little greasy and smells horrible, but I can deal with that, I guess.

The long and short of it all..

Quite frankly, I think I've stretched this relaxer enough! I'm so anxious for my hair to be straight again! I've been getting a lot of breakage so I gave the ponytails a rest and opted for cornrows & inverted braids for the past 2 weeks. After this post I'll be applying my relaxer. Since I normally wrap my hair to dry, a length check will be done at another time. Maybe I'll get to use my dryer (its been in my closet since I purchased it). Welp, now that Jeremy's finally asleep, its time to get to work!

Help me, help you grow...

I've come to the decision that I need to give my hair that extra push. My edges are thinning from the constant ponytails I do for work and as I get deeper into this relaxer stretch I find myself needing to moisturize and seal my hair more often. My honeybunch Jessica over at Diva on a Budget suggested that I add these 2 products to my regimen:

Frizzy or Fabulous?!

I had a nail appointment early this morning and without thinking I co-washed my hair without having enough time to let it dry! Instead of freaking out, I attempted a twist out (which ended horribly)& then came up with this style. Its a bit wild and frizzy for me, but I embraced it. :)

Hair update

I've made the decision to stretch my next relaxer until my birthday (Sept 28). I've purchased 2 packs of the Chocolate hair and I plan to get that sewn in after my relaxer. I've been doing a lot of protective styling bc I'm not used to not getting perms. My hair is very dry (due partly to the fact that I'm too lazy to get up and moisturize and seal it properly). I think its actually breaking in my sleep. :( Honestly, I really just need to find the drive to take  care of my hair and make sure it's healthy. I've bought a sit under dryer and a ton of hair products so hopefully I can find it in myself to make sure my hair is healthy. Wish me luck!

& so here I was being a Bitter Betty thinking that my husband hadn't gotten me anything for Mother's Day (even though I'm not TECHNICALLY a mother yet) when in reality my present was held up in shipping! I'd dropped the hint to him about the jewelry box I blogged about in my Mother's Day Wishlist post and had hoped that he'd gotten it for me, but he'd never said anything about it!
